James Isserlis - Plymouth Counselling Service

James Isserlis

Counsellor

(Adv Dip Couns. Registered MBACP)

About me

I’m James Isserlis (Adv Dip Couns. Registered MBACP), an experienced professional Counsellor who is passionate about helping people to make positive change in their lives.

I believe that seeing an Independent Counsellor can be useful to anybody at any point in their life.  You don’t necessarily need to be going through a difficult time to benefit.  It is my experience that clients advocate for themselves and assert their views much more clearly in a neutral environment. Feeling free to talk openly and without fear of judgement is the first step in being able to move forwards in your life. The bedrock of all the work I do is based on making my clients experience of therapy a positive one and giving them the tools to increase their self awareness, confidence and resilience.

My forward thinking approach to therapy is what sets my work apart. I look at every client’s unique circumstances and tailor the support in a way that works for them.  The work I have completed with clients over the last few years has been successful in assisting a large number of people to overcome the issues or barriers that have prevented them from becoming the person that they wish to be. Clients have commented that my easy going approach to therapy has  enabled them to talk about some of life’s most sensitive subjects openly and safely.

I am committed to providing a high quality service that is able to deliver a range of  therapeutic support to individuals and organisations. I have extensive experience of  working with enduring complex mental health needs and ethical issues. The scope of my health and social care  experience over the years has seen me  work closely with multidisciplinary teams  within the community and in inpatient units. In addition I have worked as a counsellor in education settings and charities prior to running Plymouth Counselling Service.
