Is Counselling For Me?

Many of us have times in our lives when we feel confused, unable to cope or simply have questions that we need answers to – talking to a counsellor may help if you are going through such a time. Plymouth Counselling sessions will enable you to explore difficulties or problems with a person who will listen with sensitivity, acceptance and have a good understanding of your unique situation and needs. This work, will aim to address the underlying causes of emotions or pain and help you to enhance your wellbeing, forming a new understanding of your issues and yourself.

James Isserlis - Plymouth Counselling Service

James Isserlis

Counsellor

(Adv Dip Couns. Registered MBACP)

About me

My name is James Isserlis (Adv Dip Couns. Registered MBACP) I am an experienced professional Counsellor who is passionate about helping people to make positive change in their lives.

I have worked in the health care sector for almost 15 years in professional roles, mentoring and supporting others and worked as a professional Counsellor since 2013. In that time, I have worked as an Associate Counsellor for Plymouth University and am employed as an NHS Staff Counsellor at University Hospitals Plymouth as well as my private practice work at Plymouth Counselling Service.

I believe that seeing a Counsellor can be useful to anybody at any point in their life.  You don’t necessarily need to be going through a difficult time to benefit. Feeling free to talk openly and without fear of judgement is the first step in being able to move forwards in your life. The bedrock of all the work I do is based on making my clients experience of therapy a positive one and giving them the tools to increase their self -awareness, confidence and resilience.

My forward thinking approach to therapy is what sets my work apart. I look at every client’s unique circumstances and tailor the support in a way that works for them, whether the issue is short or long term.  Over the last few years I have been successful in assisting many people to overcome the issues or barriers that have prevented them from moving forwards in their lives . Clients have commented that my approach has enabled them to talk about some of life’s most sensitive subjects openly and safely and that they wished they engaged with therapy sooner.

I have extensive experience of supporting individuals their families and carers with enduring complex mental health needs and cognitive impairment.  The wide scope of my health and social care experience over the years has seen me work closely with multidisciplinary teams, legal professionals in the community and in inpatient settings . In addition I have provided coaching and support in the workplace and Counsellors in training.

The aim of my work at Plymouth Counselling Service is to deliver  a high quality service for any person or organisation that feels Counselling would benefit them.
